K-12 Home School Courses
K-12 HOME SCHOOLER SCHEDULE
- What are the details of the flexible schedule?
The regular K-12
Homeschool learning year lasts from October through August. Home schoolers are free to work each day, evening, or weekend. It's a flexible schedule that is based
on your family's needs. Feel free to take vacations, days off, or work ahead. As long as your home school child's
work is complete by the end of the year, you're in good shape!
We provide 36 weeks of school, divided into 4 nine-week quarters. There are over 300 days of access to our home school
courses during October through August that are provided to complete 180 lessons. Because parents are in charge
of their home school program, we have no specific attendance requirements — we only suggest that students
complete their courses by the end of the academic year.
A "day" is counted in our online system when the home school child spends 2 hours in a 24-hour period focused
specifically on our coursework. Parents can add additional hours not spent at the computer through the Joy Directed
Activities log.
- What if my child finishes a home school course early and wants to move on?
- Home schoolers may move forward at their own pace. If the child finishes early, they are free to move on to
another home school course. Students are free to enroll in up to six home school courses at any given time. The
cost for adding a course after the initial enrollment is $25 per course.
- Can we remove a home school course if we feel that it is right for us at this time?
- Yes. There is a $10 course removal fee; however, this fee is waived if the student adds a course ($25) concurrently
with the removal.
- At what age can my child start home schooling with The K-12 Homeschool?
- Because children grow at different rates, we suggest that parents use their own discretion when deciding when
to enroll their child. The average age to begin kindergarten courses is age five. Some states have mandatory age
requirements.
- When does home school registration for the 2011-2012 academic year begin?
- Our 2011-2012 home school registration begins Oct 17th, 2011.
- Can my child select home school courses from different grade levels?
Of course! For example,
if your 8th grade child struggles in Math and excels in English, it would be perfectly acceptable to enroll
the child in 7th Grade Math and 9th Grade English.
- How many instruction days and hours does The K-12 Homeschool offer?
- From October through August, we offer over 300 days of instruction. Home school students must comply with their
own state's home school attendance requirements. Our system keeps track of your child's attendance.
- What is a Bible-based home school curriculum like?
- We believe that an education is incomplete without an understanding that all areas of life should reflect God's
glory. As a result, we believe strongly that each subject should include references to spiritual truth and the perfect
nature of Christ. We present the Bible as the inspired, infallible word of God.
- I know about a "home school co-op" activity in my neighborhood. Can my entire co-op enroll and work together?
- Yes! Home school students are free to attend co-ops. We encourage this. And students in co-ops can all enroll
in the same set of courses and work together.
- Can home school parents/teachers assign field trips? Do home school students get credit for participating?
- Some of our home school assignments are field trips. Parents can include field trips in the home school curriculum
through the Joy Directed Activities log.
- How do tests and quizzes work?
- We provide many tests and quizzes that assess the home school child's progress throughout the year. These
tests range from true/false to free response essays. Some of these tests are graded automatically by our software,
others will be graded by parents.
- What subjects (home school courses, classes) are available?
- We offer over 150 home school courses in grades K-12. These home school courses cover core subjects as well
as a variety of fun electives. See the link at the top of this page.
- How much time should my home school student spend online every day?
This depends largely on your home
school child's learning style. We suggest that elementary home schoolers spend at least 1/2 to 2 hours completing
the primary online course material. Middle and high school students should spend about 2-4 hours online per school
day. The rest of the work is completed offline.
- Who writes the home school lesson plans?
- Our in-house Curriculum Development team is hard at work making our courses the most relevant, current,
engaging courses available.
- Are there home assignments that are not completed on a computer?
- Yes. We provide many subjects to be completed offline in addition to field trips, interactive learning projects,
and hands-on activities such as science labs and crafts.
